How you help How would you like to be a part of an organization that truly transforms the lives of young people? At LEAP for Education, you can help develop programs that challenge students’ thinking, engage them in interesting projects, expose them to new ideas and connect them with interesting people in the community -- all to empower them to be successful in their education, career, and life. You will guide underserved and first-generation-to-college students to identify their strengths and values, create long-term aspirations and find an intentional post-secondary pathway to achieve them. To do this job well (and yes, we value our volunteers like employees), you will need a passion for working with youth and the ability to create an inclusive and culturally accepting environment. You should understand that to be successful in this job you will need to set high expectations and provide a safe and supportive environment for each of our students to learn and explore based on their individual needs. If you can bring this to your job, we definitely want you on our team. Please join us and make a real difference.
About us LEAP for Education helps over 350 youth, ages 11 to 24, with free academic services to students from middle school through college. Most of our youth are the first in their family to graduate from college,80% are low-income and 75% are minority, largely Latino. In our programs, middle and high school students learn by receiving academic support as well as an exposure to a range of new topics, ideas and experiences and then have the opportunity to explore topics of interest more deeply through project-based learning, career exploration, service learning, civic engagement and community service. Students engage in a myriad of career services and events include career panels, networking nights, mock interviews, job shadowing and summer jobs. With the academic enrichment, community engagement and career services, students can then identify career pathways that match their strengths and interests and values which then inform what post-secondary education makes the most sense. LEAP advisers help students identify colleges and other post-secondary institutions, help them with their applications and then make sure they have the funds to complete their education without a lot of debt.
